“Every once in a while, various big cities boast a particularly unique place or event that make them worth visiting for it alone. In San Francisco’s case, don’t waste your time on the Golden Gate Bridge or Fisherman’s Wharf, but instead make a bee-line to 731 Larkin Street, and check out The Magazine. Other cities might have back-issue magazine stores, but this one is downright artistic. So much so that local artists design the store’s posters, which are sometimes available for sale. The famous underground cartoonists Robert Crumb and Jim Osborne have contributed, as well as the fabulous gay porn artist, Rex (pictured). Bob and Trent, who run the store, are the friendliest guys around and they are strong supporters of local as well as national talent, and so The Magazine is also a cultural watering hole. But, best of all, The Magazine, besides carrying old magazines, nostalgic and collectible graphics, and ephemera, features a great selection of erotica, including a healthy choice of those good old homo-erotic beefcake physique mags from days of yore. Hell, maybe they might have some copies of old IN TOUCHs that we have long sold out of that you rabid readers keep asking about. So when in San Francisco, go take a browse, and tell Bob and Trent that IN TOUCH sent you.” - Jerry Mills
